Titanic iceberg warning ship In discovered at the bottom of Irish Sea

THE ship which sent an iceberg warning to the Titanic has been found on the bed of the Irish Sea.

The merchant steamship SS Mesaba transmitted a caution signal to the ill-fated liner while it crossed the Atlantic.

The message was received but never reached the bridge.

Later that night the "unsinkable" Titanic hit an iceberg and plummeted nearly two-and-a-half miles to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean on her maiden voyage.

After the Belfast-built liner went down on April 15, 1912, 1,500 lives were lost on what has become the world's most famous shipwreck.

The SS Mesaba continued as a merchant ship for six more years before being torpedoed by a German U-boat while part of a convoy in September 1918.

It was sunk by the submarine U-118 04 of the Kriegsmarine while the convoy made a return voyage from Liverpool to Philadelphia.
